Hummingbird – Freestanding Glass Art
Hummingbirds have long been regarded as one of the most fragile beauties found in nature. The kaleidoscopic colours and carved glass used here hopefully convery some of that beauty.
Captured in glass is the hummingbird visiting a flower, shown above is a carved smaller bird. Carving is also used in the formation of the larger bird to depict the delicate nature of the wings. Vibrant colours of crushed glass are used as surface detail to convey the multicoloured shimmering body of the bird, when fused the crushed glass becomes smoother but still retains texture. The flowers and foliage use pulled glasses on the surface of the panel for more dimension.
This piece is freestanding and works well in a range of postions.
It is mounted on a turned english oak circular base which has been oiled to bring out the beauty of the grain.
